Pumpkin seedlings - Day 4 |
This is our first foray into pumpkin farming..so I'm sure there is much to be learned. For example...yesterday on PBS Sprout, Dirtgirl (who totally freaks me out) says you can crunch up egg shells and sprinkle around your seedlings to keep snails and slugs away. Huh, who knew? I think they are good as fertilizer too! I've heard beer works too - but maybe the slugs just get too tipsy to care about eating sprouts.
I can't believe it's only been 4 days since we planted our seeds! They came from last year's pumpkins at Nana and Grandaddy's farm. Thanks Nana!
I'm thinking at the rate they are growing, we'll have the biggest pumpkins in town...look out St. Luke UMC Pumpkin Patch!
Seriously, if we get one decent pumpkin...I'll be THRILLED! And so will my little dudes.

Oh my goodness!
ReplyDeleteThat happened to me too...but ours was not planned. Sprouts came from the rotten pumpkin seeds that ended up in my landscaping!
Good luck!

Good luck with your pumpkins!

Congrats on your pumpkin sprouts! I had problems with slugs and earwigs in my garden. I used soapy water in a squirt bottle. They stopped instantly!

Thanks Ladies! I'm getting nervous about these punkins'. It's only been two weeks and they are getting really BIG! Crystal...I'll have to try that soapy water trick.
